We strive to make the best and wisest use of all gifts to our housing ministry. One hundred percent of your monetary gift will be used to provide safe, sound and affordable homes for needy families. Ninety percent will be used for home construction here in Portage County and the balance will help Habitat for Humanity, International construct homes throughout the world. We attempt to make shelter in Portage County a matter of conscience. We don't give charity. We do work side by side with low-income people, giving them a chance to help build new homes and new lives. We build relationships and community as we build houses, transcending the boundaries of culture, status, wealth and race. Central Wisconsin Habitat for Humanity is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Our goal is to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and to eliminate poverty housing here in our community. We accomplish this by using "biblical economics". We build decent shelter in partnership with God's people in need. Using donated money and materials, our workers build houses. We then sell these houses - at no profit and no interest - to families too poor to secure a bank loan. In place of making a cash down payment on their homes, the families we select to receive a house put in "sweat equity". In other words, they help in the construction of their own homes and other Habitat homes as well. It is the generosity of people like you that enable Habitat to put desperately needed roofs over the heads of thirteen needy families here in Portage County. Construction of our fourteenth home will begin very soon. |
