616 Wadleigh
As of July 10, 2010 the lot has been stripped and the frost walls built and backfilled. Soon we will be working here full time.
July 16 and 17 2010
In preparation for the plumber and then the pouring of the slab we leveled the site. We hope to get the blue board down for the pour this coming week.
July 24th, 2010
Saturday we worked at 616 Wadleigh bailing the water out of the footing trenches and getting some foam insulation boards cut.
WOW!
Did I mention WOW??
This week we went from bare ground to a front door! OK, maybe it is a front door frame, but we laid down insulation for the slab, had the plumbers in, had the slab poured and after some ciphering we raised three walls. We are hitting it hard, trying to get as much done as soon as possible. To that end:
-Our next work days are Monday the 2nd (8:00) , Tuesday the 3rd (8:00), Wednesday the 4th (8:00), Friday the 6th (12:30) and Saturday the 7th (8:00) each day at 616 Wadleigh.
-Friday is just a little iffy, watch your inbox as I will let you know about any changes.
The past two weekends we got the OSB up on the exterior walls, framed up some interior walls, cleaned up and organized the trailer and secured the house with our temporary garage door.
The trusses have been delivered. We plumbed the interior walls, added the top plate and placed the first couple trusses this weekend.
We will erect the remainder of the trusses this week and could use a big turnout. If you are able to help, please do!
The week started with a load of trusses to conquer. Wow, those trusses were flying up to the roof, being set, and by week’s end all the trusses were up, facia board was nailed and OSB was on the roof! We will continue nailing the OSB and then progress to roofing.
Please note were are not working Friday and Saturday this week. Have a safe Labor Day Weekend.
We had UWSP students help last Monday for Labor of Love. The gang cleaned out the trailer and finished nailing the roofing OSB on the west side of the house. The rest of the OSB was placed Wednesday. This week we will get the roofing felt down and hopefully start shingling on Friday.
-Our work schedule is Wed the 8th (8:00), Friday the 10th (7:30 - 12:30) and Saturday the 11th (8:00), at 616 Wadleigh. Please note we are working all day Friday and we can use some strong backed volunteers right away in the morning to help move shingles.

The Shingle Girls
Do the “Shingle Girls” look like the gang you want roofing YOUR house?
Well I’ll tell you what, the Shingle Girls (aka UWSP Women’s Basket Ball Team), can roof our Habitat homes whenever they like!
The shingles were delivered Friday morning at 7:30, by 4:00 we had half the roof done. Saturday brought the rain, mist and the women. By noon we had the other half completed and placed Tyvek and some foam on the house. Thanks TEAM!
We will do the ridge vent this week then start on soffit and windows. That means siding is not far behind.
We finished the ridge vent and shingles by the garage, built the scuttle hole and installed ceiling fixture boxes inside, put on the rest of the Tyvek, picture framed and installed the windows, and taped most of them....and did most of the blue board. We had the UWSP Habitat Campus Chapter working Saturday, thanks!!
We survived the deluge…..apparently our roofing job was a good one…..no leaks! Last week we prepared for siding. Saturday we started on the west side and by noon we had that side finished and got the east side already to go. This week we will prepare the front and back and continue siding there.
Last week we installed the garage window, got the proper vents in, marked the trusses for insulation depth , got started at bracing the trusses, blocking for the ceiling drywall, and installed half of the East side vinyl. We will continue with siding this week.
This week was siding, soffit, and painting the utility room floor. All went well except, perhaps, Doug could have planned his escape a little better!
This week we had volunteers from the UWSP Campus Chapter, the UWSP Women’s Rugby Team, and Frame Memorial Presbyterian Church. Thank you! We got the front door in, worked on the storage shed, and continued with the soffit and siding.
We managed to work around the rain this weekend and finished all the soffit, fascia and siding. The only outside work left is moving dirt and finishing the storage shed.
This coming week we will work on the shed and then start placing ceiling drywall.
We had the Theta Xi fraternity from UWSP in this weekend. We put them to work hanging drywall, taping drywall, roofing the storage shed, and shoveling that pesky dirt. We will continue with drywall and insulation this coming week.
The driveway, sidewalk and curb were poured this week and the rest of the drywall delivered. We had the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity and the National Residence Hall Honorary from UWSP in on Saturday. Thanks all! We are waiting for the electrician to finish. Once he is done we can have our inspection and get the rest of the ceiling drywall up, and insulate and vapor barrier the walls. Lots of drywall work the next couple of weeks. We still have some staining of the shed, and some mudding of the garage drywall. In order to try and take advantage of the relatively warm weather expected this week please note the following work days.
-Our work schedule is Monday the 8th and Tuesday the 9th (both days 12 – 3) , Wednesday the 10th (8:00) Friday the 12th (12:30) and Saturday the 13th (8:00), at 616 Wadleigh.
This week we insulated the walls, then Friday and Saturday we had the PRSSA group from UWSP in and we placed additional vapor barrier, cut and hung drywall, put the locksets on the doors, and painted the garage ceiling. We still have a fair amount of drywall to put up, and we would like to have it done by the end of the day on Saturday. To that end we will start at 8:00 Friday instead of 12:30 and work until 4 or so.
-Our work schedule is Wednesday the 17th (8:00) Friday the 19th (8:00 – 4:30) and Saturday the 20th (8:00)
WOW, did we have the volunteers this week! The UWSP Campus Chapter, and the UWSP Student Involvement and Employment Office (SIEO) were there in full force. Unfortunately our silly Volunteer Coordinator (that would be me) kind of overbooked for the tasks at hand and we had to turn away the SIEO students, sorry.
Bruce said finish the dry wall by Saturday. We hit it hard Friday, and by 11:00 Saturday we had it done! The finishers will be in over the next two weeks so our schedule reflects that:
-Our work schedule is Wednesday the 1st (8:00) when we will be moving things to and from storage…….pickups and trailers are welcome! As to Friday the 3rd and Saturday the 4th sorry, but we will not know until the 1st as to whether the finishers will be done so stay tuned.
We managed to get quite a bit done this week before the blizzard came. With a group from Coldwell Banker helping we hung interior doors, painted, readied closet shelving and installed the storm doors (too bad we ordered the wrong size for the back door).
Wow, the house is REALLY coming along. We stained trim, put up shelving (and took it down, and put it up......), carefully measured and cut the trim (and cut, and cut, and re-measured.....) and started casing the doors and closets, and trimming out the rooms.
Things are flying at the house, and good thing as closing and the dedication is two weeks from today…..gak! The cabinets are up, with a little adjusting. The stove and fridge are in place (again with a little adjusting). The trim is done and the final staining is under way. Countertops will be one of the big tasks next week. Just what is Rick up to here? I've heard of getting into your work, but.......
We just dedicated the home of Edward and Jessica and their family. There were smiles all around, and a few tears of joy too! Presentations were made by the Children's Museum, the YMCA, the Portage County Republican Party, Undercover Quilters, Doug Henderson, Central WI HfH, and the all important presentation of the keys. Many thanks to all our volunteers, especially Bruce, Bob, the Hard Cores, the CWHfH Board, Kris at CAP, Keith at Anderson Law Firm. I wish you all could have been at the dedication......it really makes it all worthwhile.
SEE YOU ALL THIS SPRING!
The gang got 1st and 2nd Street roto-tilled, seeded, fertilized and mulched this weekend, and we made the ceremonial move of the Habitat trailer to the new build site at 509 West Cornell.
We are planning on seeding and mulching 616 Wadleigh this week, but as we are waiting for Fahrner Excavating to do the final grade please keep your eyes open for an update that says “work day tomorrow!!”
We are off Memorial weekend and hope to get on a regular schedule after that.
